Salty Dawgs get together all year long to have fun and learn from each other. We call each of these gatherings a “rendezvous.” These are fun events that offer opportunities to rub shoulders with other sailors, share sea stories, plan future cruises and passages, and just deal with boat issues. Each event has an informative and entertaining agenda; some with a noted speaker or panel of speakers; some with entertainment…. all memorable.
Our Rendezvous are open to all coming by land or by water, with special discounts off any fees to Association Members. Our annual schedule of Rendezvous includes the following:
January – Francis Bay, St. John, USVI.
Annual dinghy raft up and drift, bring an hors de oeuvres to share and your own drink, meet new sailing friends, and enjoy a lot of laughs.
February – Annual Dominica Rendezvous.
Our gathering in Dominica coincides with the Annual Portsmouth Area Yacht Services (PAYS) group’s annual Yachtie Appreciation Week. You’ll wonder at the the beauty of Dominica, and the many opportunities for exploration and socializing with other cruisers and island people. Our presence along with donations of school supplies goes a long way to helping Dominica recover from the damage wrought by floods in 2015 from Tropical Storm Erika. Salty Dawgs from up and down the island chain make tracks for Dominica for a full week of social activities each evening.
February – Annual Rendezvous at Foxy’s, Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke, BVI.
Always fun, always tasty food, always good company, and always with Foxy’s unique brand of humor.
October 5th – Annual Annapolis Rendezvous
The Annual Annapolis Rendezvous is held at the Mears Marina, beginning at 6:00 PM. It is open to all sailors. The pulled pork barbeque dinner provides the backdrop for a great party. Join us when you come to town for the United States Sailboat Show in Annapolis. Fees are minimal due to the contribution of sponsors Jack Martin Insurance and Falvey Insurance. The Annapolis Rendezvous is a reunion of Salty Dawgs —-past, present, and future—- all eager to catch up with “old” sailing friends and make new ones.
November – Bequia Rendezvous at Frangipani’s
The date will be set to try to coordinate with the Fall Rally to the Caribbean’s expected arrival in North Sound. This will include the famous, free Rum Runner Painkiller Party followed by dinner at the Frangipani Restaurant.
December – Bamboushay Party.
Held at the Bamboushay Lounge in Road Town. Preference is given to seating for Salty Dawgs from the Fall Rally, with space for other Salty Dawgs on a first call-first serve basis. The Rendezvous always has a wonderful variety of West Indian dishes on a plentiful buffet, and a great gathering of Salty Dawgs to discuss their cruising plans for the rest of the winter. A surprise band provided by Bamboushay usually makes an appearance, as does Foxy and BVI Government dignitaries to provide an official welcome of the Salty Dawgs to the BVI. All is provided for a very reasonable fee.
Plus Numerous Informal Gatherings of Salty Dawgs
In addition to these scheduled larger Rendezvous’s, dozens of informal gatherings of Salty Dawgs are occurring all along the East Coast and the Caribbean every year. Jus fly your Membership Burgee or Rally Flag and look around the anchorage — an instant invitation for hikes, tours, happy hours or dinners. The camaraderie of Salty Dawgs is strong and widespread. Membership in the Association opens many doors to socializing and friendships that last a lifetime.
