New Volunteer CommitteesThe Salty Dawg Board of Directors has approved the formation of two new committees that will play an important role in shaping the future direction of our organization over the coming years. The first is a Strategic Planning Committee, whose mission will be to evaluate the Association’s goals and priorities over the next five years. This committee will take a thoughtful look at questions such as which rallies, rendezvous and programs we should continue to offer, should we have more of a presence in the Mediterranean or on the west coast, should we advertise more, how do we respond to a changing economy, should we engage in more land based activities not associated with rallies, and how we can best evolve to meet the needs of our growing and changing membership. The second is the Community Service Committee. While the Salty Dawgs have supported a handful of community service efforts in recent years (most notably in Dominica and through beach clean-ups in Antigua and other islands) I believe we can and should be doing more. Many of us are fortunate to spend time in places that welcome us warmly, and this committee will help guide how we give back in meaningful, respectful, and sustainable ways. My hope is that the Salty Dawgs become known not only for great rallies and camaraderie, but also as an organization that contributes positively to the communities we visit. Both committees will be intentionally structured to include an equal mix of current Salty Dawg leaders and members who have participated in rallies or rendezvous, but have not previously served in leadership roles, who can bring fresh perspectives and ideas. If you are interested in serving on either committee, I invite you to apply by sending me an email ([email protected]) describing your history with the Salty Dawgs, which committee interests you, and why you would like to be involved. If you’ve ever thought about helping to shape the future of this organization and making a lasting impact, this is a great opportunity to do so.
