A VISIT TO THE ROTARY CLUB IN PORTSMOUTH

Written by Bruce Grant, SV Cygnus

While working on our Salty Dawg Service Day and visiting the Portsmouth, Dominica Home of the Aged, Bruce Grant discovered that Rotary Club of Portsmouth was very active in the community. As a 30-year Rotary member, Bruce attended the local club's dinner meeting the next night to learn more about their community projects.  Bruce attended with Chris Eggert of SV Destiny (not in the photo – he was the photographer).

The club includes leaders from the schools, hospital, government, local business owners, and the US Peace Corps. Rotary Club of Portsmouth has many active initiatives underway and has offered to work with the Salty Dawgs and PAYS to ensure that our annual projects are focused on the right areas and that any money donated goes directly to the targets identified in a transparent manner.

It was suggested that as part of our annual Dominica Rendezvous setup, the Salty Dawg leader could contact the club president directly several months in advance. Bruce has offered to help facilitate this, as he is already planning to align his Maryland Rotary club with theirs on several projects, and has plans to visit Dominica again in the coming years.
